"Our experiences as a Demi-Pair changed some points of view in our life. We are more responsible and are more self-confident not only with ourselves but also in minding children and talking in English", Demi-Pair Programme,

Why Demi-Pair?

First of all, it’s not only improving your English skills, it’s also getting in touch with a new culture, meeting people from all over the world and taking responsibilities for children.

Why Ireland?

Cities like Galway or Dublin weren’t the only reason. There is much more: Cliffs of Moher, Giants Causeway, the Burren or Glendalough are just some examples of Ireland’s amazing nature.

Daily routine

The day starts with getting ready for the day. After the breakfast with the host families, we go to school. Our way to school is a beautiful walk along the beach, where the school is situated. If we look out of the window in the classrooms, we have a lovely view of the sea. The classes consist around 15 people which is a good possibility to make new friends. The lessons start at 8.30 or 9.00 am. until 13.00 or 13.30 pm. Two friendly, patient and helpful teachers help us to improve our English skills.

After school, we go home and have lunch. After some light housework, we start minding the children. Depending on the age of the children we do different things with them. We go to the playground, take them out for a walk or just play with them in and around the house. The work with smaller children also includes changing the nappies, feeding them or cooking some food for them.

After the dinner with the family, we help them clean the kitchen, tidy the house up and bring the children to bed. When everything is done, we are free. It’s time for doing the homework or enjoying the free time. If our host parents want to go out in the evening we have to look after the children in the evening, but only twice a month.

Free time

Never the less we also have free time on the weekend and in the evenings where we can go out with friends or visit places near our town.

A good possibility to discover Ireland offers the school. For example, we can book a tour to the Cliffs of Moher or we can enjoy our day in Belfast. The tours are guided by an experienced guide. The staff is very helpful and helps us whenever we have a question.

Influence on our life

Our experiences as a Demi-Pair changed some points of view in our life. We are more responsible and are more self-confident not only with ourselves but also in minding children and talking in English. The daily conversations with the children and the host families helped us a lot for improving our English. If you like being with children and you want it to connect it with improving your English, we can definitely recommend it.
