Demi - Pair Families

Busy families who need "an extra pair of hands" need a Demi - Pair!

A Demi-Pair is a person who helps you with both childcare and light housekeeping. Demi-Pairs live in your house and work for 20 hours per week and 2 nights’ babysitting per month in exchange for a single room and all meals.

Taking a Demi-Pair

We welcome new families who can offer a happy home to our demi-pair applicants and who live within easy commuting distance of Dublin city centre or Bray. All families are visited by a representative of Living English, prior to the placement of a demi-pair.

We present our demi-pair programme as the original cultural exchange and we ask our families to provide an individual bedroom and to make their demi-pair feel part of their family.

Demi-pairs attend English language classes in the mornings and are available to look after your children and do light housekeeping in the afternoons and evenings.

During the summer months, we offer a demi-pair programme with English language tuition in the afternoons, thus the demi-pair will be free to assist you in your home in the mornings.

If you would like to become a host family to a demi-pair, please complete the application form below or email info@livingenglish.ie for more information.

“We have found that Living English have always worked closely with us to ensure they match us with suitable demi pairs who will fit into our ever changing family dynamic. We enjoy hosting the students, and learning about their country and traditions. Anne and Carolyn run the process seamlessly”

Claire, a host Mum living in Lucan.

DEMI-PAIRS attend English language tuition in the mornings during the academic year. A shorter demi-pair programme including either morning or afternoon English classes is available during the summer months. We offer 2 centres, Dublin city and Bray. Demi-pairs assist for 20 hours per week (a mix of childcare and light housework) and 2 nights’ babysitting per month) in exchange for their own bedroom in the family home and on a full-board basis. The duration of a demi-pair’s stay in Ireland is between 12-40 weeks during the academic year and 8-10 weeks during the summer months. No placement fee and no salary paid. Living English charges an 85 euro administration fee.

Families are asked to buy their demi-pair either a regular Leap travel or one of the newer Leap cards for youth and student commuters. More information on the various available Leap cards can be found on leapcard.ie - Leap cards need to be topped up with €100 prior to your demi-pair's arrival.
